Is it possible to teach yourself a violin? Can you stay at home, at your own pace and learn to play competently? Can you do all of the necessary techniques that can you teach yourself how to read music?
Obviously learning to play a musical instrument is an incredibly exciting and challenging experience and no doubt, you will have asked yourself many of the questions above when it comes to learning to play the violin.
So can you really teach yourself to play?
Absolutely! All you need is a little bit of patience, some great resources and regular practice. When you think about it, this is all you need to learn any musical instrument, not just the old fiddle. Many people think that it is good thing to have a teacher in order to play, but this isn't entirely true.
Of course a professional and well qualified, experienced teacher will be able to guide you down the right road and will certainly help you achieve success but you must remember that most of your progress and practice happens in between your lessons, when you are away from your teacher.
So aren't you teaching yourself most of the time? Aren't you disciplining and training yourself every time you pick up your instrument? Absolutely.
One thing that you will always need is some kind of resource and some kind of material to study and immerse yourself in. There are hundreds if not, thousands of different tutor books for you to choose from, but don't forget the online option as well. There are many great websites that offer fantastic packages that have been put up together by some of the world's greatest violin teachers. They include videos, text lessons, downloadable music, printable music and even backing tracks for you to jam along to. So can you teach yourself violin? You certainly can.
